Delphinium New Millenium - Blue Lace

Delphinium New Millenium - Blue Lace

Zone 3 - 9

Tall spires of the deepest sky blue tinged with pink.

New Millenium Hybrids were developed in New Zealand to produce stronger stalks and more intensely coloured blooms. They are considered to be longer lived and more tolerant of heat and humidity. I grow these in my garden and have found them to be stronger and tougher but they still do require staking. (6-8')

Delphiniums are much loved by the new gardener and the connoisseur alike. Their spires of brilliant blooms are also frequently visited by hummingbirds and butterflies. They also produce a great cut flower. Delphiniums are best grown in full sun, in moist, well-drained, fertile soil. During the blooming period fertilize regularly with a good perennial food to help feed and maintain the plant. Delphiniums will generally begin to bloom in early summer and may continue for up to 4 weeks. If they are cut back after flowering they may bloom again later in the summer.

Delphiunium are poisonous and usually are not bothered by deer or rabbits.

Perennial Sweet William

Zone 4 - 9 (likely hardier)

This variety of Sweet William is unlike any other which are all biennials. This is a true, long lived perennial discovered and test for 15 years by Plant Delights Nursery, Inc. in the United States. It has fabulous brilliant red-black carnation-like blooms from spring and throughout the summer. Deadhead for continuous blooms. Once gardeners discover this plant it will sure to be in high demand. Best grown in a sunny, well-drained location. I grew this in the garden last summer and it was amazing. It grew into a huge clump very quickly and rebloomed several times throughout the summer. NOTE: Do protect from winter wet which it hates! (12-16")

Gorgeous new introduction. Forms a tight, vase-shaped clump of blue-green foliage that begins turning wine-red in early summer. By late summer nearly the enitre plant is drenched in red and is topped by matching wine-red flower panicles held just above the foliage. Outstanding! Sturdy and attractive all winter. This is a smaller switch grass that will hold its form very well. Best grown in full sun. Tolerant of must soil conditions. Drought tolerant once established. (3')
