An Asian shrub, Caryopteris provides some of the best late season blues. Caryopteris are bushy, 2-3' tall plants covered with clusters of fragrant, spirea-like blooms from August until October. 'Worcester Gold' has wonderful chartreuse foliage and masses of bright blue flowers. Great contrast! Late season butterflies love this plant. Treat Caryopteris like a sub-shrub, cutting back the woody stalks early every spring to 8-12" from the ground. Best grown in a sunny situation with moist, fertile, well-drained soil.
