Gas PlantZone 2 - 9
Lovely form. Pink blooms with dark burgundy-red veining. The Gas Plant is an outstanding ornamental. Growing 2-3' tall it produces showy spikes of star-shaped blooms in late spring and early summer. It is called the Gas Plant because the blooms are said to exude a volatile gas that can be set aflame. Glossy, dark green foliage has a wonderful citrus fragrance.
Very important -- The Gas Plant requires full sun and rich, very well-drained soil. Do not over-water!!! It prefers the soil on the sweet side. If your soil is on the acidic side add a bit of horticultural lime. The Gas Plant can be difficult to establish and it is very slow to develop. Nevertheless it is worth cultivating. Once established it may very well outlive you! Choose its site carefully, as it hates to be moved once planted.
Also Important - Some people may have an allergic reaction to the oils found in the foliage of this plant. It is always best to handle this plant with gloves.
Please note - these plants are the result of open pollination. This means most of the time 'Rosea' will produce pink flowers however occasionally white blooms will result. I apologize for this in advance but it is just mother nature doing what she does. The plants are lovely no matter the colour of bloom.
