Native to Ontario however it is Endangered. It is a lovely shade tree with a straight trunk and pyramidal shape when young, maturing to a massive rounded form. In the spring it bears yellow-greenish flowers similar to the tulip tree. Cylindrical bunches of seeds (cucumbers) are green in late summer, ripening to small pinkish-red in the fall. Fruit is attractive to birds. Fall foliage colour is yellow, gold and brown. Best grown in full sun and fertile, moist, well-drained soil.
